Dear Sixth Grade Families,

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Angelique Gratto. I attended and graduated from Arizona State University in May of 2013 with my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education. This will be my tenth year teaching, five of those years in fourth grade, one in sixth and 3 in 8th grade. In April, I celebrated my seventh year of marriage and we celebrated and celebrated our son's 5th birthday. I am very excited about being your child’s sixth grade teacher this school year!

My motto in our class is we are all a team. Communication is the key to making our team grow and forming a valued relationship. I encourage you to call me, send a note or email me with any questions or concerns at any time. My plan this year is to have open communication with you. With that, I ask you to please keep me updated on any changes to your phone number or email.

My philosophy on homework differs from many other teachers. I do not give much homework as I feel the students should do most of the core content with me. Students will have an opportunity to get a book from our library or home. They will complete Passion Projects. A passion project for independent reading is a project that reflects not only the joy that your reading brings to you, but it also reflects other things that bring you happiness. For example, if art brings you joy, create a masterpiece drawing that reflects the themes in your novel. If building in a workshop brings you joy, build a structure that reflects the setting of the novel. If music brings you joy, write and record a song that reflects the plot, conflict, or characters from a story. The key is to personalize this project so that it reflects what brings you joy in reading and beyond!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Angelique Gratto
